This year, the annual winter lottery for those who wish to camp in the Park or hike above treeline this winter will be on Monday, 11/03. The Reservations phone lines will not be accepting calls and Park Headquarters will be closed for non-lottery related business while the lottery is occurring.
The reservations phone line will remain open.
In observance of Indigenous People’s Day, the BSP Headquarters in Millinocket will be closed on Monday, 10/13/25. Reservation phone lines will be open from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Due to recent and forecasted rainfall, effective at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, 08/29 through 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 09/02, fires will be allowed at all backcountry campsites where fires are allowed per park rules, including Russell Pond
Beginning on Monday, 6/30, the Trail Crew will be replacing a bridge on the Chimney Pond Trail. Hikers will need to follow a short, well-flagged route around the project site until further notice.
Starting Friday, June 6th, the Tote Road will be open through the Park. Be advised of soft shoulders and the need to use caution while driving on the Tote Road. All Traveler Mountain trails and all Katahdin trails, except the Saddle Slide trail will be open starting June 6th.
Tote Road: open from Togue Pond Gatehouse to the Macmanus Brook gate, just north of Nesowadnehunk Field, and from Matagamon Gate open to Trout Brook Crossing (just past South Branch Pond Road). Roaring Brook and all other roads are open. CAUTION: road shoulders may still be soft in many areas.
The Park’s headquarters building in Millinocket, including the reservations office, will be closed to the public from April 28th to May 9th for training events. Reservations may still be made online and by phone during these two weeks.
